Romans 8:1-8 | No Condemnation in Christ
Sinclair Ferguson tells the story of two pastors from the Czech Republic who attended a conference in the southern part of the United States many years ago. On Saturday afternoon, the visiting pastors were taken to a massive supermarket—unlike anything they had ever seen. After looking around at the vast number of products, their first instinct was to burst into tears. Then they turned to their host and asked, “Does this store belong to the American government?” To them, it was inconceivable that this store could be for all the people. They were stunned to learn that everyone had access to the items. In a similar way, when we read of the Gospel privileges in Romans 8, we want to turn to Paul and ask, “Do these privileges belong to every Christian?” Paul would answer, “Yes. They are for all who are in Christ” (Ferguson, “His Transforming Spirit”). These riches in Romans 8 are not reserved for only a select few Christians, but they are for all who are united to Christ and indwelled by the Spirit. Join is this week as we begin our study in Romans 8!
