1 Corinthians 1:4-17 | How the Cross Confronts Competition in the Church
As we continue in our study of 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds them of all they have in Christ and that in fact they are indeed “saints” - belonging to God. As such, their lives and attitude toward one another should reflect this. A few church members were loyalists to Paul, others devoted to Apollos. Still others were traditionalists who loved Peter, and a few were pietists with an over-spiritualized allegiance "only" to Christ. So Paul clarifies the danger of these divisions, and reminds the church that the cross of Christ is the great equalizer.
