As we dive into the individual gifts that are listed in chapter 12 of 1 Corinthians, keep in mind that every Christian has at least one basic gift as a primary gift. As that gift is exercised in the body of Christ, the believer will be fulfilling his or her role of ministry and service to which all of us are called. This does not mean that everyone has only one gift, however. Someone with the gift of teaching may in his or her teaching exercise the gift of exhortation. Someone with the gift of service may in her service exercise the gift of mercy. Different gifts are given to different believers, and all gifts are for the glory of God and the good of the church.
