Romans 1:8-15 | Obligation & Eagerness to Preach the Gospel

In the business world the most efficient companies have effective meeting facilitators, and one of the keys to a successful meeting is setting a good agenda. In a similar fashion, Paul sets the agenda for his letter to Rome in the passage before us—he wants the recipients of his letter to know of his personal desire to see them, the reason for his desired visit, and the overall thrust of Paul's gospel ministry. At the heart of Paul's agenda in his letter to Rome, as well as his own ministry, is his passion to preach the gospel to the nations. Paul wanted the Romans to know of his desire not so they could be aware of Paul's personal hobby but so they could know the apostle's and their own divinely given agenda: to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. Without clarity on this mission, Paul and the church in Rome were liable to drift from their God-given purpose in life.
